Political Prisoners

Free Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners

The U.N estimates that Burma’s prison system holds approximately 2,100 political prisoners. Many are given prison sentences ranging from 65-104 years and are sentenced in closed-door hearings without legal representation in violation of international standards of justice. The most recent example of Burma’s sham judicial system is the trial of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who is facing a trial both substantively and procedurally defective.

Free Burma Alliance will provide online petitions calling for the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners languishing in the junta’s prisons. International pressure has gotten other Burmese political prisoners freed. These peaceful activists have broken no laws. The sentences given out in the junta’s kangaroo courts are a charade and an insult to international law.

Galvanize with a mass mobilization

Free Burma Alliance will create an interactive advocacy hub for individuals and advocates where they can engage by posting ideas, engage in discussions, sign on to campaigns and petitions calling for action on Burma.

Celebrities for Burma

Free Burma Alliance will engage high profile celebrities to help bring attention via the press and media. Celebrities can play a major role in influencing high level officials, such as the Obama Administration, to put pressure on governments that currently support the military regime (Such as China and Russia). We are currently working on getting celebrities to make a short video PSAs for Burma which will be posted on our site as well as on YouTube and other video sharing sites worldwide. 52 million Americans for Burma

The people of Burma need international support. We seek to mobilize 52 million Americans (a million per State) every single day. We are committed to ensuring that our petitions and template letters to government officials, supporting the above campaigns, get forwarded to the appropriate stakeholders to ensure peace and accountability to Burma. Free Burma Alliance will raise money to supply Dr. Cynthia Maung’s Mae Tao clinic in Mae Sot with desperately needed prosthetics as well as the other clinics along the Thai/Burma border.
